Casteddu d'Araggiu
Hillfort in
The Casteddu d'Araggiu dates from 2000BC and is well preserved. The entrance allows you to wonder at how important the fort must have been, as the corridor is 10m long, roofed over with massive stone slabs. The corridor leads into an enclosure with several interior rooms, and steps leading up onto the thick walls. The foundations of the torre, tower, also remain, and the views over the Golfe de Porto Vecchio are incredible!
The track up to the fort is steep and rough through maquis and scrub, study footwear is advisable, although we did see someone try to climb up in flip flops, she turned back.... The walk takes about 30 minutes (take some water).
From Porto Vecchio take the D198 for 5 km then turn left on the D759 for 4km to the carpark in the village of Araghju.
